President, Energy and Industry
Joe Adams is president of Energy and Industry for MWH Global, headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado. He oversees global strategy, as well as the day-to-day operations, for MWH services to the energy, mining, oil & gas and manufacturing sectors. He is a member of the MWH Global Board of Directors.
Adams is dedicated to continual learning and the growth of the company, focusing on business development and operational success to ensure MWH continues to be the leading provider of services to energy and industry clients. He is especially proud to see projects reach completion, allowing the opportunity to see first-hand how MWH projects are Building a Better World. One such project, in which Joe is the chairman of the MWH lead design consortium, is the $3 billion expansion of the Third Set of Locks at the Panama Canal.
Adams has more than 37 years of experience in engineering, construction and project management. He joined MWH in 1985, holding numerous leadership positions including office manager for the Chicago office, director of business development and chief operating officer for the industrial business of the Americas region. He was also president of MWH Constructors from 2005 to 2011 during which time he led the successful acquisition of a 1,000 person construction firm in the U.K. Prior to MWH he served as project manager for IT Corporation.
A licensed professional engineer, Adams is very involved. His current engagements include the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Association of General Contractors (AGC). He is a past president and founding member of the Water Design Build Council. He was formerly on the Board of Directors for the Construction Industry Roundtable and the Beavers (the largest organization of dam builders in the U.S.). He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Engineers Without Borders USA. He is also on the corporate advisory board for the University of Colorado School of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering and for the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Outside the office, Adams is a big believer in giving back. He is a founding member of the Colorado Women’s Foundation STEM education program designed to help bring women into STEM professions and he has created several endowments regarding safety and study abroad for college engineering students. He is also a supporter of organizations in the Denver area providing food to those in need. He enjoys spending time outdoors, especially hiking in the Rocky Mountains.
Adams has a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a master’s in civil engineering from Cornell University. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He has a two daughters and a son, and currently lives in Louisville, Colo. with his wife.
