SYDNEY, 18 May 2011 – Consulting engineering firm MWH has been appointed by Origin Energy to provide detailed design services for two proposed water treatment facilities as part of the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project.
Origin and ConocoPhillips are joint owners of APLNG, a 50:50 coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) joint venture project in Queensland. Under the joint venture, Origin is responsible for the ‘upstream’ facilities – the gathering fields, water treatment facility and gas facility. ConocoPhillips will be responsible for the ‘downstream’ LNG facility.
Both proposed facilities are for sites within the Surat and Bowen basins, approximately 400km west of Brisbane.
MWH will perform the work using a multi-disciplinary, international team that includes world-class water treatment and storage expertise from the United States.
The firm’s appointment follows the successful completion of two smaller assignments for Origin: an alternative layout for the water treatment facility and a front-end engineering design (FEED) completion.
