Education: B.E Civil and Environmental Engineering (University of Adelaide), MBA (University of Adelaide)
Job Overview: I am working as a Consultant as part of the Asia Pacific Management Consulting Group. With more of a technical background, I am involved with project delivery in the Business Transformation sector.
How I ended up at MWH: A couple of years ago I was approached by MWH to come and work on their project with the South Australia Water Corporation. I was offered the role as the subject matter expert for the optimization tool component of the suite of Decision Support Tools being delivered, and I have been here ever since.
What is on my desk right now: Two computers, three monitors, a cup of tea and I think there is a pen here somewhere, but I can never manage to find it when I need it….
Free time activities: Living in Adelaide I do love a bit of a wine tour…. I also play mixed netball (very badly), enjoy cooking for friends and family, seeing live music, and I am trying to get through the couple of books I have on the go.
Best career advice I’ve ever received: It was from my mum, she said “don’t be a nurse”. Pretty much all of the women in our family have been nurses, she must have known that nursing was not for me and wanted me to do something different.
Experiences at MWH: I am currently working as the subject matter expert on the optimisation project MWH is delivering as part of a suite of predictive and operational analytics tools for SA Water Corporation. This involves me working directly with the client to define, deliver and test these tools and support SA Water in their ongoing use of them.
Three of the four decision support tools for SA Water’s metropolitan network operations were delivered last year. The final tool (the optimisation tool) is almost complete and currently in user testing. This project has brought together many cutting edge technologies, refined and improved these products and integrated them together. Some of the tools have been built from the ground up. MWH is playing a key role in helping the client identify its requirements, select products or develop detailed designs to build the products.
MWH has been working on the progress of the decision support tools for more than three years. The tools are at the forefront of the Predictive and Operational Analytics trend and other potential clients in the water and other industries are beginning to show an interest in the value of them.
Story to tell: Last year I had the opportunity to present at the Breckenridge conference (an internal conference at MWH) on the optimization tool we have been developing for SA Water. This conference is just a great knowledge sharing and global networking initiative that MWH invests in. It is daunting presenting to 50 of your peers that you don’t really know, plus a range of high level MWH mangers, directors and presidents, in addition to being filmed and live webcast to the rest of the organization…but it is all over in 10-15 minutes! I would recommend to anyone that if you have a story worth sharing try and get accepted to Breckenridge.
