2nd Annual MWH/HW/ICE Christmas Lecture on Resilience 2015

The Institution of Civil Engineers, in conjunction with Heriot-Watt University and MWH, is holding the Christmas lecture on 14 December 2015 as part of an annual series on resilience.

This year’s topic, “Lessons from a flooded city on building resilience” will be delivered by Professor Eelco H. Dykstra, ‎Executive Chairman, Daily Impact Emergency Management.

Professor Eelco Dykstra will take the audience through a reality-fiction scenario of a flooded city based on his 25 years of international emergency management experience in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and North America, including his work on the strategy and methodology for the International Katrina Project (IKP).

Professor Dykstra has 25 years’ experience in international emergency management. He is a member of the Dutch National Advisory Board for the Environment and Infrastructure, and runs the international think-tank DIEM (Daily Impact Emergency Management) from The Hague. DIEM specialises in complex emergencies and high-impact projects and advice in the areas of disaster risk reduction; consequence management; critical infrastructure, economic and safety resilience and flood management/climate change adaptation.
