Jim Kuiken
Chief Corporate Officer
Jim Kuiken is chief corporate officer for MWH Global, where he executes strategic initiatives worldwide at the discretion of the chairman and CEO. His extensive experience in enterprise risk management, contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, and large infrastructure projects make him exceptionally suited to overseeing the MWH public-private partnership platform. Among these endeavors are the development of merger, acquisition and divesture strategies, the identification and management of project risk and assisting resolution of major claims litigation.
Mr. Kuiken joined the organization in 1986 as an engineer with JMM Consulting Engineers (the U.S. predecessor of MWH) before becoming a vice president and manager of the regional office in Denver. In this role, he was instrumental in the successful completion of numerous water, wastewater and water resources projects in the Western U.S.
Kuiken has worked at MWH for more than 29 years and has served in a variety of leadership roles to facilitate the strategic growth and development of the organization and its employees. As vice president and assistant to the president of the Americas region, he developed and implemented MWH University, a leading in-house educational initiative that continues to successfully provide educational programs to employees worldwide.
Kuiken holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, a MSCE in hydraulics and water resources from Purdue University and a MBA from the University of Denver. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Outside of the office, Mr. Kuiken enjoys fly fishing, sailing, skiing and home remodelling projects. He currently lives in Fort Collins, Colorado with his wife of more than 35 years.
Rick Adcock
Managing Director,
MWH Infrastructure Development
Rick Adcock is a vice president at MWH Global, Inc. and managing director of MWH Infrastructure Development Inc. In this role, he leads the corporate business platform that develops and executes infrastructure projects of municipal, utility, and private sponsors using a Public-Private Partnership/Design-Build-Operate-Finance delivery model.
From 2008 to 2011, Mr. Adcock was senior vice president for Camco North America, a carbon market project developer. Prior to that, Rick was senior vice president for Environmental Markets at World Energy, where he led the on-line exchange’s business in green power, renewable energy certificates, and greenhouse gas emissions credits.
From 2000 to 2007, he was vice president of energy & carbon asset management at CH2M HILL, where he led international teams developing project-financed renewable energy and other GHG emissions credit-producing projects. He co-founded and served as president of Econergy International, an early mover in developing and project financing clean energy and carbon emissions credit-producing projects.
In 1992, he served as a special assistant to the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State. From 1988 to 1991, he managed energy and environmental policy issues as legislative assistant to (then) U.S. Senator Al Gore. Prior to that, he was an energy technical and policy analyst with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and the World Resources Institute.
Mr. Adcock was a Congressional Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and an Adjunct Research Fellow at Harvard University’s Center for Science & International Affairs. He holds an M.A.L.D from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, a master of science in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado, a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and a bachelor of arts in English from the University of Denver.
Roger Austin
Vice President and Director, Project Development,
MWH Infrastructure Development
Roger Austin serves as Director of Project Development for MWH Infrastructure Development Inc., responsible for deal origination and assisting clients with funding strategies for their capital improvement and operational management needs. Roger brings 22 years of experience in the utility industry including management consulting, engineering, and project/program management. Roger specializes in assisting clients with accelerating portions of their capital improvement plans through alternative delivery and financing.
Prior to joining MWH Infrastructure Development Inc., Roger served many key, strategic positions for MWH including the Management Consulting Director (MWH BSG); Regional Vice President, Pasadena, California (MWH Government & Infrastructure); and VP/Director of Strategic Planning (MWH Global). His experience and service with the company enables IDI to leverage the global footprint and relationships at a local level.
Roger has experienced the development cycle first hand, working in the mid-1990’s on one of the company’s first private development projects, the Upper Bhote Koshi Hydroelectric Project in Nepal. This $100m asset reached financial closure in 1998 and became operational in 2001. MWH is still currently an owner in the Nepal-US joint venture.
Roger holds a MS in Engineering Management from Northwestern University and a BS in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He is also certified in Strategic and Competitive Intelligence by the Academy of Competitive Intelligence and attended the first Emerging Business Opportunities Executive Program at Harvard University.
Amy Broughton
Principal,
MWH Infrastructure Development
Amy Broughton is a Principal with MWH Infrastructure Development, Inc., the MWH business that identifies and develops opportunities to bring private finance to public and private infrastructure projects. In this capacity, she works to align project sponsors, institutional investors, and key stakeholders to effectively structure project financing approaches for water and other infrastructure projects. Amy is particularly focused on project risk management and P3 contract structuring as well as stakeholder engagement and financial modeling.
Prior to joining the MWH Infrastructure Development team, Amy worked as the Intellectual Property Sales Manager for MWH Global. In this capacity, she matched MWH IP with business development targets to efficiently transfer knowledge, experience and proprietary tools across sectors and geographies. Amy has presented at industry conferences on Knowledge Management, monetizing intellectual property, and organizational network analysis.
Between 2008 and 2011, Amy acted as the MWH Global Strategic Market Intelligence Manager. In this role, it was her responsibility to generate market and competitive insights and recommendations for the senior leadership team. Key focus areas included mergers and acquisitions, public private partnerships, and emerging technologies.
Ms. Broughton holds an MBA from the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business, and a B.A. in History from Colorado College.
