This $135 million project includes engineering, design and construction management/general contractor services to design and construct a new 30-mgd activated-sludge treatment plant as an expansion to the existing facility, including all civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, commissioning and start up.
By increasing the facility’s capacity to 60 mgd, the District anticipates having adequate capacity to accommodate projected growth until 2025. MWH is also upgrading the facility to bring it into compliance with current EPA and State of Utah regulatory requirements. MWH is the designer and GC/CM on this project.
This project involves expanding and rehabilitating the Central Weber Wastewater Treatment Plant’s sewage treatment infrastructure and associated appurtenances.
MWH also made modifications to the existing chemical building and performed the associated site work, including yard piping, roadways, fencing, drainage facilities, grading, electrical distribution and process control facilities.
MWH pre-qualified local subcontractors to construct the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and architectural components of the work and competitively bid each work package. Additionally, MWH bid and directly purchased roughly $22M in process equipment and materials. Two soil bentonite cut-off walls were constructed to assist in dewatering. Approximately 250,000 cubic yards of material were excavated in preparation for the new plant facilities. Construction of the cast-in-place concrete structures and construction of masonry buildings, installation of mechanical equipment, process electrical and installation of yard piping are all complete.
