The Resource Efficiency Programme for the Seychelles Water Sector, is part of Phase 1 of the broader “Project Neptune” Water and Sanitation Programme. MWH provides services for energy efficiency, water demand management and drought risk mitigation, each constituting a separate sub programme. The beneficiary is the Public utilities Corporation (PUC).

    Location: Seychelles
    Market Sector: Water & Wastewater
    Client: European Investment Bank
    Status: Ongoing

    The project consists of three programmes:

    1. The Energy Efficiency Programme consists of energy audit and equipment for reduction of energy consumption purpose.
    2. The Water Demand Management Programme consists of awareness campaigns, promotion of by-laws, water saving devices, rainwater harvesting and household water storage for water demand management purpose.
    3. The Drought Risk Mitigation Programme consists of water resources, disaster mitigation and management systems purpose

    1. Energy Efficiency Programme

    • Energy audit of the water supply system and waste water system;
    • Elaboration of measures and equipment for reduction of energy consumption in the water supply system according to priority and economic efficiency;

    2. Water Demand Management Programme

    • Formulation of strategies and measures to manage water demand in the Seychelles and to reduce potable water wastage in order to achieve long-term sustainability of water supply;
    • Elaboration and implementation of measures for awareness campaigns and promotion schemes for water saving devices and rain water harvesting equipment;
    • Monitoring programme performance and effectiveness.

    3. Drought Risk Mitigation Programme

    • Assessment of existing water resources and its municipal and agricultural usages;
    • Assessment of the risk of drought, including vulnerabilities, hazards, intensities, and severities;

    • Elaboration of measures for upgrading the existing hydrometeorological system;
    • Inspection and formulation of possible meso-scale water storage of undeveloped catchments and assessment of potential development of additional surface water sources;
    • Training for data processing and water resources estimation.

    Following the design Phase, for each component, an implementation Phase with:

    • Preparation of tender documents for supply of goods and any associated services.
    • Assistance to PUC for tendering of the ensuing contract(s);
    • Assistance to PUC for administering the ensuing contract(s);
