This investment is being driven by several factors:
- Tightening discharge consent for ammonia to be applied by March 2010 in response to a Fisheries Directive.
- A new discharge limit for Phosphorus to be applied by December 2008.
- Capital maintenance of existing assets based on risk scoring of operability and maintainability, as assessed by Severn Trent.
- Odor nuisance (inlet works and sludge processes) Sludge Improvements Health & Safety Improvements.
Phase 1 - Capital investment Works:
- Activities involved replacing valves, pipework and primary de-sludging pumps in the Old Works.
Phase 2 – Centrifuge Centrate Liquor Treatment Plant:
- A dual stream Sequenced Reactor liquor treatment plant to remove 50% of ammonia load.
- Removal of Aeration Lanes in both the Old and New Works.
Phase 3 – Ferric Sulphate Chemical Dosing Plant:
- Installation of Lintott Series 5 Dosing Rig.
- 120m³ Chemical Storage.
- Construction of a secondary dosing line to the Inlet Works (New works) and Pre-Interstage Pump Channel (Old works).
Phase 4 – Old Works Settlement Tank Capacity:
- Four 2.5m high sidewall FST increasing surface area capacity of FST by 51% to 7947m.
- The new tanks will treat one third of the current ‘Old’ works flow and will return RAS at one third of current RAS flow.
- Refurbishment of existing RAS Pumping Station.
- Construction of a wash water Pumping Station.
Phase 5 - Conversion of Activated Sludge Plant to achieve Biological Nutrient Removal:
- To comply with the requirements of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and Fisheries Directive it was is planned to convert the Wanlip’s ASP’s to achieve Biological Nutrient Removal.
