MWH will perform Owner’s Engineer and Project Management Services, supporting Amey throughout the waste collection and treatment project.

Engineer and Project Management ServicesMWH has been appointed by Amey, one of the UK’s leading waste management companies, to perform Owner’s Engineer and Project Management Services as part of its £225M Isle of Wight Waste Contract.

As part of this contract Amey will be applying for planning permission and an Environmental Permit for a state-of-the-art treatment facility which will include a new mechanical treatment plant and refurbishing the existing advanced thermal treatment plant at a cost of £50m. The refurbished advanced treatment plant will generate a gross 3.5MWe.

As Owner’s Engineer MWH will be supporting Amey through the project by providing technical advice and reviews with a team who have expertise in the proposed technologies, construction management services, programme management and SHEQual management.

The 25 year contract will involve delivering waste and environmental services for the council, including managing kerbside collections, Household Waste Recycling Centre’s and waste treatment facilities. Designed to deliver savings on the current cost of the service, the contract will increase recycling on the Island and minimise the amount of household waste sent for landfill.

John Ord, business director for thermal power & energy networks for MWH in the UK, said, “This is another exciting venture for MWH and it builds on our growing portfolio of energy from waste contracts following on from the current appointment with Amey for Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park and the work for Viridor on their Dunbar Energy Recovery Facility.”
