Brussels, Belgium – A consortium led by MWH Global was awarded both contracts for providing institutional support to Ivorian water and sanitation programme for the millennium (PHAM), which targets the achievement of the country’s 7th Millennium Development Goal by increasing the level of access of water and sanitation.
UNICEF and German investment-bank KfW are in charge of the new infrastructure. MWH will help devise, draw up and implement sector-based policies on drinking water and sanitation, as well as support the Ivorian government with the decentralisation process of the drinking water and sanitation infrastructures in rural areas, to transfer its management to decentralised communities. The project will also help to sustain the rural water supply infrastructure of Ivory Coast, by professionalising both the management and the maintenance of watering places in rural areas throughout the country.
Wim Drossaert, Europe-Africa President at MWH Global: “We are proud to be involved in this important project to realise a sustainable water infrastructure in Ivory Coast. MWH has more than 20 years experience with managing similar projects for the European Union and providing consulting services for water supply, sanitation and wastewater treatment infrastructures, and sectorial strategies and policies to contribute to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. We look forward to using this experience to make both of these projects into a big success.”
