Disastrous wildfires in Colorado made international news because of their widespread destruction and impact on Colorado families and businesses. To assist in the relief efforts, MWH provided donations through corporate funds and employee support.
The MWH Caring Foundation contributed $50,000 to the State of Colorado Fire Relief Fund established by the Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper. The contribution will provide intermediate and long-term funding to help restore Colorado communities tremendously affected by the wildfires.
In addition, MWH pledged to match employee contributions to the American Red Cross. Led by the MWH Volunteer Committee, employees contributed $8,900 to a special American Red Cross fund that addressed immediate needs of fire victims, firefighters and volunteer efforts. MWH matched the contribution to the American Red Cross, providing a total contribution of $17,800 to the American Red Cross.
“Our corporate purpose is Building a Better World,” said Jim Kuiken, executive projects officer and director and vp of the MWH Caring Foundation. “It is clear that our employees are deeply committed to that purpose. We are grateful for the generosity of our employees and their willingness to contribute to those in need, especially in communities where we live and work.”
The MWH Caring Foundation was established in 2002 to fund charitable and educational causes that align with the MWH purpose of Building a Better World. To date, the MWH Caring Foundation has donated $850,000 to charitable organizations. Previous donations following natural disasters were made to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal in Australia in 2011; Fundación Un Techo Para Chile following the Chilean Earthquake in 2010; the President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake victims in Pakistan in 2006 and the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief fund in New Orleans in 2005.
