While there is a growing trend in Africa to implement utility-scale renewable energy projects supplying power to national grids, “decoupling” is an emerging trend that allows buildings, suburbs and even districts to source electrical power independent of national electrical grids.
Mini and micro energy grids are expected to play an increasingly meaningful role in helping various African countries overcome the challenge of connecting centralized power plants to outlying rural areas that are in dire need of electricity in order to improve the quality of life of non-urban citizens.
