Clay Mills is one of our flagship sites, based on the River Trent flood plain north east of Burton. This project involved a major extension to the existing sewage treatment works and provides improved treatment processes and increased capacity.
The use of the site as an exemplar of best practice throughout the Severn Trent network, and far beyond, underlines the strength of its considerate performance.
Top standards were recorded across all considerate aspects, with new and innovative ideas being constantly encouraged. The dedication to community support was of the highest level, examples of which included the installation of land drains for farmers to prevent flooding, the voluntary repair of sludge pipes, the weekend loaning of a van to a rowing club, and the donation of surplus recycled stone to local gravel companies. Local schools received presentations and site tours, and local suppliers were used extensively.
Throughout the project there were endless examples of detailed considerate attention and fresh thinking, leading the Scheme Monitor to summarise in his report: “During its three year construction period, this site has consistently operated at the very highest levels found in the construction industry.”
“It is our privilege to reward the efforts of all those involved in projects which set the bar in terms of considerate construction. We never fail to be impressed each year by the high levels of innovation and excellence evidenced throughout the industry.
Each award-winning project serves as a shining example to the industry as to what can be achieved across a range of different sized projects and in all sectors of the industry. My congratulations to all sites that have received a National Site Award,” said Mike Petter Chairman, Considerate Constructors Scheme.
Richard Thomson, who managed the project, said, “It gives me tremendous pleasure that Clay Mills won a Considerate Constructors GOLD Award in 2015 showing that we have completed the scheme on a high! It reflects the high scores which are industry leading. This scheme is not about procedures and processes but people and you have shown dedication to all aspects of the project to make you best in class.”
