In November 2010, a joint submission by the Central New South Wales Councils (Centroc) and MWH was honored by Engineers Australia as one of the top engineering projects of 2010.
The Water Security Study, which began in November 2008, was undertaken to improve water security across Centroc’s 17 member council areas, which span more than 70,000 square kilometers and represent more than 236,000 people. At project initiation, the need for improved water security was widely accepted, but the extent of the threat was unknown. The Centroc/MWH investigation included sophisticated modeling to forecast urban demand from the dozens of towns within Centroc’s remit for a 50-year horizon through 2059.
