(L-R): CHUN-YAT, HSU, Minister of Public Construction Commission, Executive Yuan, Taiwan, presents the Golden Quality Award to Jason Huang, MWH Greater China General Manager

MWH Taiwan Branch has won the 14th Public Construction Golden Quality Award for its contribution in sludge reduction for the Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant.

MWH in Taiwan, along with Taipei City Government’s Public Works Department (PWD) and Wei Sheng Wastewater Treatment Co., Ltd., has been awarded the prestigious Public Construction Golden Quality Award. The three were recognised for their joint effort in the successful completion of the Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Sludge Reduction Project.

The Public Construction Gold Quality Award is the highest recognition for public infrastructures in Taiwan, and is awarded each year by the Public Construction Commission in Taiwan.

Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant is Taiwan’s largest secondary treatment plant, with an average treatment capacity of 500,000m³ per day. Since 2007 MWH has been engaged as Dihua STP’s operational supervisor and has assisted PWD in supervising the plant’s operators and developing best management plans for the plant’s affiliated park and recreational facilities aboveground. Recently, MWH has also successfully assisted PWD in planning, designing and supervising the improvement of plant’s anaerobic system, which has since achieved a reduction from 110 t/d to 32 t/d, saving the plant more than NT$2million (US$63,000) per month on sludge disposal. Other plans to improve the plant’s operation, such as facilities to further remove nutrients, are already in the pilot phase.

This is the second consecutive year the MWH team in Taiwan have won the Public Construction Golden Quality Award. Last year they won with the Zhong-Hsiao Gravel Contact Oxidation Process (GCOP) design project.
