The 2015 Oxfam Water Challenge Day has recently wrapped up with MWH Global taking the top spot from 19 other competing engineering firms from around New Zealand.

The 2015 Oxfam Challenge was comprised of twenty engineering firms from around New Zealand with a combined fundraising goal of $40,000, the amount needed to launch a Melanesian WASH project. Oxfam wanted to specifically work with the New Zealand water industry to make a real difference to the lives of those in communities forced to drink dirty water every day.

This year the Oxfam Water Challenge included a Challenge Day held at St Kentigern College in Auckland. The Water Challenge day brought together workmates to design, build, present and deconstruct a solution to our challenge. As an extra incentive to fundraise, teams were given extra clues to help them on the Challenge Day for each fundraising milestone they met. The challenge was based on a water problem/scenario, with design, engineering and pitching/presenting skills needed. Along with this being a great event which used everyone’s relevant expertise, it was great for some healthy competition within the sector and was also a great opportunity to showcase MWH Global skills whilst in a fun team environment.

MWH Global had two teams entered on Challenge Day with the Auckland, New Zealand office also being joined by a team from our Suva office in Fiji. The Auckland MWH Global office took the honours on the day scoring the most points and completing the challenge the quickest.

As the global leaders of the wet infrastructure sector, we see first-hand how critical water is for life on Earth. We continue to partner with organizations who strive to ensure every single community—and every human being—has access to clean water. That’s why responsible wastewater recycling and effective environmental water treatment are so important to us.

To date, the MWH Global offices in New Zealand and Fiji have combined to raise over $5,300, however with the fundraising deadline not closing until 21 March. The race is now on between the engineering firms to raise the most money with the team that raises the most winning a trip to Vanuatu to visit some of the Oxfam water projects.

We would like to congratulate all of those involved. The winning MWH team from the Auckland office, the Auckland Avengers comprised of: Patricia Melero – Wonderwoman, Andrew Mcdonald – Superman, Andrew Atkinson – Spiderman, and Jay Burgess – Captain America.
