Mining Magazine has awarded MWH their 2015 Environmental Excellence Award! The award recognizes the work done by our team in Lima, Peru led by Juan Garcia Quijano to develop a tool which uses satellite data to estimate water availability and hydrologic impacts in extremely remote areas for mining and hydropower projects and operations.
Water is a vital resource for mining practices, yet assessing its prevalence is oftentimes a challenge. The advantages of this software are that it can provide easy access to hydrologic information, produce expedient assessments, easily update water volume estimates - so it can be used to support decisions at all project stages, and the bulk of data collection and assessment can be done from a desktop - effectively decreasing the cost and risk incurred from work in the field.
This hydrologic assessment tool is a great example of our thought leadership at work. Great job team!
