Bentley Be Inspired MWH

Bentley Award Winners

Tyseley Resource Recovery Centre in Birmingham, UK was announced the winner in the Innovation in Power Generation category at the Bentley Be Inspired Awards. The awards honor the efforts of Bentley users to advance infrastructure design, construction and operations throughout the world.

A panel of global industry experts reviewed over 360 nominations from 55 countries before making the selection.

Generating power through the gasification of waste wood, this £48 million Tyseley Bio Mass Power Plant will be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. It will be supplied with approximately 67,000 tons of wood waste secured under a long-term sustainable contract with a local supplier. Over its 20-year lifespan, it is expected to reduce greenhouse emissions by 2.1 million tons and save 1.3 million tons of waste wood otherwise destined for landfill.

Under an EPC contract, MWH used AECOsim Building Designer, Bentley Navigator, MicroStation, OpenPlant and ProjectWise, to develop and coordinate the design for Birmingham Bio Power. MWH will undertake its construction and commissioning before taking on an operational role running the plant under a five-year operations and maintenance contract.
