SA Water’s – Predictive and Operational Analytics Tools, Adelaide Metro Water Distribution Network (Adelaide, South Australia, Australia) project was announced as the winner of the Innovation in Asset Performance Management.
A panel of global industry experts reviewed over 360 nominations from 55 countries before making the selection. The finalists presented their innovative projects to engineering, construction and operations leaders from all over the world at the Year in Infrastructure 2015 Conference, which took place November 3 – 5, 2015 in London.
The North South Interconnection System Project was proposed to improve water security for the Adelaide, Australia region by linking the city of Adelaide’s separate northern and southern water zones through a series of new transfer pipelines, new pump stations, and a range of other enhancements to the existing water network. As part of the overall project, AssetWise Amulet provided decision support tools that deliver real-time operational analytics.
In the 2013/2014 financial year, the solution helped save AUD 3 million in electricity costs alone. A comparative reduction of more than AUD 400,000 also occurred over the last six months in network operations expenditure from optimized pumping and treatment plant operations. Additional savings are expected as more refined input costing data becomes available and the organization responds to new information about the cost impact of operational decisions.
MWH Global was engaged as part of a joint venture to deliver an interconnection to a water supply network. MWH also worked with SA Water to develop and integrate a suite of decision support tools that deliver valuable operational and predictive analysis, ensuring that both current and future maintenance and operation are taken into account. This specific project has also won multiple local, national and global awards since 2014 including being named as the winner of “Water Performance Initiative of the Year” at the 2015 Global Water Awards.
