The Chicago office volunteered for the 20th consecutive year for the Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago event. The team dedicated two weekends to help rebuild a home in Chicago’s South Side, which included a voluntary pre-work weekend. Nearly 30 employees, friends and family members of MWH employees, along with skilled labor from local Unions volunteered resulting in approximately 300 hours of labor.
The volunteer effort was part of National Rebuilding Day which was April 26th. MWH staff was a part of more than 3,500 volunteers who helped repair 70 homes, three nonprofit facilities and one landscape area in Chicago. For many homeowners, making household repairs can be a daunting and cost-prohibitive task.
The MWH staff worked on a family home that was in desperate need of repair. Large scale projects included replacing the kitchen cabinets, sink and stove, dry-walling an entire bedroom ceiling, re-painting three rooms on the first level of the house, and replacing the front porch steps. .
“I look forward to the volunteer project every year because Building a Better World starts with Building a Better Chicago!,” said Mary McCabe, the House Captain of the Chicago-based team.
An office-wide bake sale and silent auction raised over $500 and allowed the team to purchase a new stove to donate to the family.
