Tania Williams (General Manager of Waste & Water for MWH Global) in New Zealand, was honored recently by being featured in the annual Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) “Engineering Future Leaders” panel. The panel, run by IPENZ, was aimed at giving engineering students an insight into the industry they are entering and what it is like to be a leader. Tania was joined on the panel by Barry Potter (former General Manager of GHD New Zealand) and Dr David Prentice (Chief Executive of Opus International Consultants NZ).
Panellists covered a number of topics ranging from how today’s young engineers compare with their own generation right through to how, as leaders in their respective firms they go about making difficult decisions.
Students in the audience were comprised of the 2014 Student Engineers New Zealand Council, the 2015 Student Engineers New Zealand Council and a select group of students who had volunteered their time for student activities in 2014. The event was significant for the students, as many of them had volunteered as representatives for their tertiary institution but had not had the chance to learn first-hand about the industry from recognised professionals in the field.
