Mayurie Gunatilaka, MWH Global General Manager – Urban Planning and Environmental Services Australia and New Zealand, has been elected as a Member of the Board of the New Zealand Council for Infrastructure Development (NZCID).
Formed in 2004, NZCID membership has grown from an initial 16 foundational members to over 80 of New Zealand’s leading private and public sector infrastructure organisations. NZCID promotes best practice in national infrastructure development through research, advocacy and public and private sector collaboration. NZCID members come from diverse sectors across New Zealand such as; private equity, service providers, public sector agencies, and major infrastructure users.
Mayurie says, “I am pleased to be elected as a Member of the Board of NZCID. The stated purpose of NZCID, to promote best practice in infrastructure development for the benefit of all New Zealanders, closely mirrors that of MWH Global which is Building a Better World.”
Also Mayurie believes that it is important for emerging leaders in the industry to be actively involved in seeking governance roles. “Leadership begins at the top, I believe this is also important in another sense in that I hope to inspire the next generation of leaders within our industry to think critically about their own engagement within the industry especially from a governance standpoint.”
Mayurie has over 16 years’ experience in commercial professional services consulting, business management and project governance, and leading teams responsible for delivering planning outcomes for infrastructure projects under the Resource Management Act in NZ, Env Legislation in Australia and also working for the EPA. Mayurie is also a Member of the Institute of Directors. She was recognised as a Finalist as a future leader in consulting engineering in the Telecom/ACENZ Future Leader awards (2009).
