Reflecting on 2014 makes us very appreciative for the successes that we’ve had throughout the year. Here are just a few of the many highlights of our year:
MWH Donates $100,000 to Engineers without Borders. For the second consecutive year, the contribution will help fund the organization’s operations, and $20,000 of the overall donation will directly support EWB-USA’s Projects Grant Program. Specifically, the funds earmarked for the grant program will allow established EWB-USA chapters with active MWH members to apply for dollars to support their chapter projects.
MWH Global Named as one of the Best Companies for Leaders. According to Chief Executive Magazine, MWH was ranked ninth as the best private company for leaders. To be included, companies must have a formal leadership process in place, demonstrate strong commitment to leadership development by the CEO and maintain a rigorous process to identify and develop leaders in both senior and middle management positions. According to MWH Global Chairman and CEO Alan Krause, the recognition demonstrates what leaders throughout the company have long understood. “We are deeply invested in building strong, yet inspiring, leaders; they are essential to our business success.”
Johns Hopkins and MWH Global Formalize Research Alliance. A research alliance between the Center for Water and Health at Johns Hopkins University and MWH Global has been agreed with the intention of providing students with a broader outlook on issues related to water and engineering while enhancing MWH existing research capacities.
MWH Awarded Sustainable Energy Project for 26 Countries in Africa. As the leading party in the consortium, MWH was awarded the contract for providing technical assistance in 26 states of West and Central Africa under the EU Technical Assistance Facility for “Sustainable Energy for All” (SE4All). SE4All is a global initiative launched by the UN and supported by the European Union, which aims to contribute to an increased universal access to modern energy services, as well as double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
MWH Ranked 8th in Woman Engineer Magazine’s “Top 50 Employers.” The distinguished list is determined by an annual reader survey distributed to Woman Engineer subscribers. Readers choose the top U.S.-based companies, across public and private sectors, for which they would most like to work or whom they believe would provide a positive working environment for women engineers.
MWH Awarded Master Services Agreement as part of $880 Million Everglades Restoration Plan. MWH was awarded a master services agreement contract by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). With this agreement, MWH will provide construction management and engineering services to help implement the $880M Restoration Strategies Regional Water Quality Plan, part of the state’s ongoing commitment to Everglades restoration.
MWH and CBS ECOMEDIA Partner to Support STEM Education with Nonprofit KIPP Colorado. MWH partnered with CBS EcoMedia to provide KIPP Denver Collegiate High School (KDC) with critical educational tools needed to support scientific literacy and enhance college readiness for KDC students.
MWH Wins Key Role in Anglian Water AMP6 Integrated Main Works Capital Alliance. MWH selected as one of six capital delivery partners for Anglian Water’s AMP6 Integrated Main Works Capital (IMWC) Alliance which will develop and deliver solutions for its £1.3B water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets program.
MWH Global Announces Completion of Huanza Hydroelectric Project. MWH completed its work on the Huanza Hydroelectric Project in the Andes Mountains of Peru, approximately 130 km east of the capital city Lima. This 92 MW project has been fully integrated into the Peruvian power grid and is now providing power to an estimated 90 thousand households.
Eastern Selwyn Sewerage Scheme Wins Another Award for Engineering Excellence. MWH, along with project partners Selwyn District Council, has won the Water, Waste and Amenities award at the New Zealand Engineering Excellence (NZEE) awards for our work in the development, design and delivery of the Eastern Selwyn Sewerage Scheme at Rolleston, near Christchurch.
MWH Global to be featured in a Special Edition of H2’s Modern Marvels Highlighting the Panama Canal Project. The special edition episode of Modern Marvels will focus on the engineering challenges that were faced as a part of updating the 100-year-old Panama Canal. With unprecedented access, the program takes us inside the multi-billion dollar Panama Canal Expansion Project and follows the ups and downs of a global team to understand what it takes to upsize one of the largest human constructions on the planet. The special will air on February 7, 2015. The Panama Canal Third Set of Locks Project was also featured in HP Matter’s article “Engineering, Technology and Sustainable Design Intersect at the Panama Canal: Q&A with MWH Global CEO Alan Krause.”
Southern Delivery System team named a Top Project in 2014 by Water & Wastes Digest. MWH is proud to support Colorado Springs Utilities on the Southern Delivery System with program management of the $841-million regional project that will bring water from the Arkansas River stored in Pueblo Reservoir to Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security and Pueblo West Metropolitan District.
MWH Global and CSC Partner on Cybersecurity Offerings for Critical Utility Infrastructure. MWH has partnered with CSC (NYSE: CSC), a global leader in next-generation IT services and solutions, to provide integrated cybersecurity services to the world’s critical utility infrastructure. The partnership will work with utilities and municipalities to protect their water and wastewater collection, distribution and treatment systems, dams, ports and hydroelectric power infrastructure around the world.
Advance JV Selected for United Utilities AMP6 Capital Delivery Programme Framework. Advance, the joint venture between Balfour Beatty and MWH, has been selected as a Construction Delivery Partner for United Utilities AMP6 Capital Investment Programme.
MWH Global Chairman and CEO Alan Krause Featured in “The Value of Water: A Compendium of Essays by Smart CEOs”. The book by Donna Vincent Roa, PhD includes 40 essays from CEOs and the most senior leaders of water utilities and associations to inform the conversation about water’s future and show that the “business as usual” approach to our limited water resources needs to change.
MWH Global Receives 2014 iCMG Awards. MWH received an Award of Excellence from iCMG, a leading full service Enterprise & IT Architecture firm, for its use of IT architecture and strategy to prepare MWH for change, support growth and influence capabilities that serve as business differentiators.
Our employees have seen numerous milestones and successes, including us welcoming Richard Dixon, John Hanula, Dick Talley and Moghes Ayalew Mekonen and seeing career highs such as those of Claire Rutkowski, Meg VanderLaan, Jim Kuiken, Jerrod Pettigrew, Dr. Yung-Hsin Sun, Glen Tarbox, David Balmforth, Janet Linden Cooper and promoting dozens to VP.
