Over 100 industry leaders got together at the British Water and MWH BIM Conference. The BIM Today, ALIM (Asset Lifecycle information Management) Tomorrow, Delivering a TOTEX Future conference took place at Aston Villa Football Club on Tuesday, 14 April.

Andrew Cowell MWH Treatment Engineering Director co-chaired the event with Richard Coackley the Director of Energy Development from AECOM.

The morning session saw eight key speakers take to the stage, including Greg Bentley the CEO of Bentley Systems who gave a very insightful presentation on how the use of software technology is driving the UK infrastructure and the impact on the HS2 high speed railway.

Another inspiring presentation came from Eddie Launhardt the Integrated Operations and Maintenance Business Specialist of Scottish Power, who talked about the Generation Strategy for Asset Management and Process Safety. Eddie gave his views on how the use of Data Management is helping the energy industry deliver a safer working environment.

The conference also heard from Peter Scanlon of Skanska, Bob Stear of Severn Trent and Steven Fozard of Costain who got the audience thinking about the value added by BIM, how change can be implemented and the application of BIM and factory thinking.

Alex Lloyd of Jacopa addressed the Supply Chain’s view on BIM. The morning session closed with Dr Anne Kemp of Atkins using her SMART phone to illustrate how Google maps are using BIM to help people every day.

After lunch five workshops took place, which were facilitated by MWH employees. The workshops sparked debate and united or divided members of the Supply Chain community as they battled out the huge potential value BIM can bring if understood.

Andrew Cowell thanked the team “The event is an opportunity for MWH to learn where others in the industry have got to in developing BIM and the issues that need addressing. The MWH team did a fantastic job in summarising the views of the delegates and, with such positive feedback from the event coupled with the huge part BIM will play in AMP6, I think this event will get bigger and better. BIM is here and will play a big part in our future.”
