Carmen Bernedo, a principal engineer in the MWH Denver office, has been recognized by the industry recently for exemplary leadership and technical expertise. She was recognized as an Outstanding Colorado Woman in Engineering by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Colorado, honoring accomplishments in the areas of leadership, success in the industry, outside involvement and technical achievements.
Additionally, Carmen was named a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE), a subsidiary of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In support of AAWRE’s mission in ‘Elevating level of Standards’ – to broaden and deepen the body of knowledge for practicing engineers, AAWRE’s certification was developed to improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the profession of water resources engineers. The D.WRE represents strong professional ethics and a commitment to life-long learning and continuing professional development. Since the start of the program, 600 water resources engineers worldwide have qualified for the D.WRE credential.
Carmen is the hydrologic/hydraulic technical leader at MWH and supervises engineering designs for diversion structures, water containment and associated facilities in the U.S. and Latin America. She is highly recognized in water issues related to dam safety, include dam overtopping, dam failure analyses and hydrologic uncertainty in design. Carmen has implemented and managed site-wide hydrological studies for large industrial site developments and operating locations.
Carmen holds professional registrations in Peru and the U.S. She is co-chair VIF of the International Committee Member of Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) and is a member of many industry organizations including the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú, Association of State Dam Safety Officials, American Society of Civil Engineers, United States Society of Dams and the American Water Resources Association – Colorado.
