Thanks to her beautiful voice and that of her choir mates, over the last 5 years, Chiara Di Silvestro has been helping several charities raise funds for their projects. One of the “Sankofa Gospel Ensemble” choir’s latest charity concerts was held at the end of November and raised about 2000 Euros. The funds will support UNICEF’s program of building a series of schools in Zambia.

Chiara joined MWH four years ago to carry out a project work during her final year’s dissertation. Today, she works as an energy engineer based in the Milan office. She devotes most her spare time to singing, a hobby she has never given up since University.
“I joined this choir about five years ago when I was a student and its name was “Politecnico Gospel choir”, since it was founded by a group of Milan Politecnico University students” said Chiara. “Then we all graduated, the University stopped funding us, but we still wanted to keep singing. That’s when we founded the “Sankofa Gospel Ensemble.”
She explained that Sankofa is the name of a mythological African bird which walks forward while looking backward…because we cannot look to the future without honoring our roots. Many of their songs are actually inspired by traditional African and Gospel music and they normally sing without instrumental sounds (“a cappella”).
