The managing director for MWH in the U.K., Cath Schefer, was a key speaker at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) debate “Civil Engineering – How will our workforce be fit for the future” in Manchester, U.K.
With the upturn in the economy and drive to fund major infrastructure projects across the U.K., many organisations are finding that recruitment of the skilled workforce they need is a real challenge. The debate focused on whether organisations should be looking at new ways to secure and retain appropriately qualified staff and be thinking differently about their workforce?
Cath talked about how MWH is engaging with schools and Universities to promote and encourage the best students to join the engineering profession. Initiatives supporting flexible working arrangements and global working practices were also discussed by the panel of speakers from industry leading employers and stakeholders.
Professor David Balmforth, ICE President and MWH executive technical director, hosted and chaired the debate.
