MWH Global is pleased to announce that David R. Sherman has joined the firm as senior executive utility consultant to water and wastewater utilities in the U.S. Sherman recently served as the director of public works for the city of Indianapolis, where he was responsible for solid waste, street operations, sanitary and storm sewer, transportation engineering, fleet services, parks maintenance snow removal and levee control. In this role, Sherman led the team that successfully negotiated a revision to a Federal Consent Decree saving the city over $750 million in capital costs – a project featured as the cover story in Public Works magazine last October. He also provided strategic, technical and management support for the sale of the city’s water and wastewater utilities to Citizens Energy Group.

“The city of Indianapolis owes David Sherman a debt of gratitude for leading us through the city’s groundbreaking renegotiation of our EPA Consent Decree and the successful transfer of the city’s water utility to Citizens Energy, which combined will save ratepayers more than a billion dollars,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard in a news release.

Sherman has more than 35 years of experience in utility management, environmental engineering and operations management. He is a technical advisor to the Conference of Mayors; one of ENR’s 2011 Top 25 Newsmakers; and was selected to receive ENR’s 2012 Award of Excellence in April.
