MWH technical director Colin Cumming recently worked with students at the University of Chester’s Faculty of Science and Engineering in the UK to develop and build two prototype versions of a 14 ft general purpose sailboat.
The Starlight Project was conceived to provide hands-on experience in design development and manufacturing for ten students at the end of their first year. The two prototype sailboats, developed and built by students were successfully launched on the nearby Manley Mere in Frodsham, UK on the 5th October 2015 at the start of the academic year. The boats perform very well, and some fine autumn weather allowed further outings to be made before they are stored for winter.
MWH Global is dedicated to helping students learn to love the STEM fields – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Inspiring young people to be excited about a possible future career in these areas is one way that we give back to our communities and how we are dedicated to Building a Better World.
