PERTH, 14 March 2011 – Global engineering firm MWH Global has announced the appointment of Mr. Daniel Lachenicht to the Perth-based position of Senior Environmental Scientist – Mine Closure and Approvals, effective immediately.
Due to substantial growth throughout Perth-based MWH operations, Mr Lachenicht’s role will extend the current capabilities of the team by providing technical inputs on closure planning and provisioning for mining projects. Additionally, he will provide strategic development and delivery of the Mine Closure Service within the Sustainability and Environment Business Unit.
Born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, Mr Lachenicht joins MWH with a wealth of operational environmental management coal mining experience encompassing: pollution management control projects; regulatory approvals; consultant liaison; closure planning; and internal auditing and monitoring. Previously, he held positions with BHP Billiton Energy Coal at the Middleburg Mine, Optimum Colliery and Rietspruit Mine respectively. He left the mines to continue his consulting career and most recently jointly owned and operated a specialised environmental consulting firm, Ezendalo Environmental Solutions, where he served as Senior Environmental Management Consultant.
Mr Lachenicht entered the world of environmental consulting in 2004 and brings with him extensive qualifications including a Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Management from Technikon Pretoria, a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Johannesburg and a Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.
