MWH Lead Hydrogeologist and vintage motor scooter enthusiast John Largey and his Team Scooter Trash comrades will be running the 2012 Scooter Cannonball Run, a coast-to-coast endurance event for scooters, April 22 - 29.
An event that tests both rider and machine, Scooter Cannonball Run covers 2,500 miles of some of the best motorcycle roads in North America from Savannah, GA to San Diego, CA. The race is run as a time/distance/regularity rally in which points are awarded based on miles completed and the ability to maintain the standard pace.
Largey’s passion goes beyond a fascination with vintage scooters. He and his teammates are also passionate about supporting Surfers for Autism, a nonprofit dedicated unlocking the potential of people with developmental disabilities, supporting advocacy for autism issues and scientific research. Largey will ride a highly-modified 1967 Vespa GT (Gran Tourismo) and his partner a 2001 Vespa ET4. Track their progress on the Scooter Cannonball Run website as Team Scooter Trash makes its way across the U.S.
Largey hopes his participation in the race and support of Surfers for autism will inspire other members of the MWH family to help support worthy local organizations. Team Scooter Trash is accepting donations (a minimum of one penny per mile) to fund this organization on the Team Scooter Trash online pledge page.
