We are proud to announce that Lisa Beutler, public affairs specialist, has been awarded the 2014 American Water Resources Association (AWRA) President’s Service Award, in recognition for her outstanding leadership in advancing AWRA’s strategic focus planning.

“Lisa employed her exceptional facilitation and group leadership skills and insights to improve group performance for several of AWRA’s strategic focus area task forces: integrated water resources management, improving AWRA’s value proposition, and examination of AWRA’s vision and mission statements. Lisa’s deep insights and experience with group problem solving and enhancing team effectiveness contributed greatly to the task forces’ performance and the products that they produced.” C. Lisa, pictured above, had the unique opportunity to meet with a true celebrity at the 2014 AWRA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., where she accepted her award. Kathryn D. Sullivan, the first American woman to walk in space and current Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans & Atmosphere and National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Administrator, was the keynote speaker at the conference and took the time to chat with Lisa about her accomplishment.

Sullivan performed the first extra-vehicular activity by an American woman during Space Shuttle Challenger mission STS-41-G on October 11, 1984. She flew on three space shuttle missions and logged 532 hours in space.

Congratulations to Lisa for this wonderful recognition….and for meeting the first American woman to walk in space!
