Education: Bachelor of Civil Engineering - from Cleveland State University. Working toward a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering Specializing in Structures and Foundations - from the same University
Job Overview: Associate Structural Engineer, working on a variety of jobs. Learning as much as I can at my level. If I go an entire day without a calculator in my hand, it’s a rarity.
How I ended up at MWH: By choice! Getting ready to graduate I began looking into firms that at least had locations across the United States and that typically were able to work on exciting and rewarding designs.
What is on my desk right now: Various pages of calculations, associated drawings, coffee….also the personal items: photos, artwork from my son, plants.
Free time activities: Free time is limited to time when I’m not studying or doing homework
It’s been rough, but I’m almost at the point of NEVER doing homework again! Any time I have is spent with my family. We love sports and outdoor activities. It’s always fun trying new adventures with our son.
Best career advice I’ve ever received: Find a place where you won’t hit a “ceiling”. (Meaning always have room to challenge yourself.)
Experiences at MWH: I’m located in the Cleveland office and I think for a young, structural engineer I’ve had the best opportunity to learn from two talented structural engineers on a daily basis. They’ve challenged me to learn new software and design skills on my own, and watched to make sure they jump in and help if they notice I’m stuck. I’ve learned the most by watching and understanding how these two engineers go about creating a design and then been able to combine that with my own knowledge of the field. I completely believe that being in the environment I’m in has allowed me to succeed so far at MWH.
Story to tell: I love to inspire younger girls, especially those with children. Most of the time I’m pretty humble about the challenges I’ve overcome to get to where I am today, but given the opportunity to share my “story” I’m certain I’d Wow any listener.
