Education: Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida International University
Job Overview: Project coordination for construction, including engineering services during construction, construction management, and project management.
How I ended up at MWH: While living in Pasadena I was hired as a secretary at the corporate office. I later transferred to a large Program in Houston where I decided to return to school and become an engineer. I’ve also worked in Las Vegas, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, Walnut Creek and of course, Sacramento where I now reside. I’ve been with the firm since 1989, nearly 25 years.
What is on my desk right now: Technical Memorandum on analysis of treatment alternatives for a water agency, coordination of a SCADA implementation project for a water treatment plant.
Free time activities: Escrima martial arts, golf, dancing and the audio visual ministry at church. I am a voracious reader, currently captivated with John D. MacDonald’s work.
Story to tell: I am currently President of the Sacramento Area Section of the California Water Environment Association and Treasurer for the Filipino Martial Arts Academy.
Best career advice I’ve ever received: While interviewing for a position in Las Vegas, hoping to transfer there, work part-time and attend UNLV School of Engineering, Janell Cook said: ‘If you are willing to do the work, you can achieve your goal. It’s just that simple.’.
Experiences at MWH: I am a non-traditional student. I chose to pursue my degree in engineering as a second career. For eight years I worked part-time at MWH while going to school. The entire time I was supported by mentors, supervisors and co-workers who encouraged me and never let me give up.
To my great surprise, my supervisors from Houston and Las Vegas came to my graduation celebration in Florida.
