Barnes_WendellThis week Wendell “Buddy” Barnes, P.E., a client service manager for MWH in the Houston office, will join an elite group of talented engineering professionals when his alma mater inducts him into the Missouri University of Science & Technology Academy of Engineering Management.

Established at Missouri S&T in 2004, the academy is an advisory group to the university’s engineering management department. Members of the Missouri S&T Academy of Engineering Management are graduates of the program who have attained significant levels of professional achievement and success and who demonstrate high standards of personal and professional integrity. Membership is by invitation only and no more than one percent of living graduates may be members of the academy. A candidate must be nominated by a current academy member or a current or emeritus faculty member. Members generally have at least 20 years of professional experience prior to nomination.

Barnes served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1967 to 1988 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his service he attended Missouri S&T, served in Vietnam, Korea and Germany; and served in the Baden Württemberg, Mobile and Savannah Corps of Engineer Districts. He was decorated with numerous military awards, including two bronze stars, three meritorious service medals, a Purple Heart and numerous other awards. Most notably, Barnes received the Wheeler Award in 1980 for outstanding engineering and construction management work in the Corps of Engineers for his leadership as area engineer for Hurricane Fredric cleanup.

As an academy member Barnes will provide benefits to the university, the department of engineering management, faculty and students by serving as an advisor and counsel to the engineering management department, assisting in accreditation requirements, providing scholarships, securing financial support for the program, mentoring students and attending functions on behalf of the school.

MWH congratulates Barnes on this distinctive achievement.
