Dubai Municipality recently selected MWH Global to perform a feasibility study, preliminary design and construction management services of a Deep Tunnel Storm Water System for the Dubai World Central (DWC) area. The DWC, owned by Dubai Government, is one of the strategic projects for the government as it positions Dubai to be a commercial center and an international logistics hub. DWC contains the Al Maktoum International Airport, which will be the world’s largest airport as well as the site for the World Expo 2020 exhibition. MWH faced strong competition, but ultimately won the contract based on our excellent technical understanding of the project and value proposition for the client.
“This project is further solidifies our long-term relationship with Dubai Municipality. The team faced tough competition from our respected international competitors and were able to differentiate MWH by demonstrating our value proposition to Dubai Municipality” said Wessam Daoud, Middle East regional director at MWH.
The overall concept of this $9 million, three-year project is to use a deep tunnel system to intercept the storm water flow from the DWC area and seven other surrounding communities and channel the flows by gravity to sea outfalls. The project at the master planning level is envisaged to include a 16-km long storm water relief tunnel and a 4-km long sea outfall that will serve Dubai’s long-term used storm water. Delivery of this project will be lead from the MWH Middle East head office in Dubai and will involve collaboration across several MWH operations and regions in order to provide the overall scope of services for strategic project.
MWH Global has been working in the Middle East region for over 60 years providing services for clients in water and natural resources.
