In order to maintain water quality standards and supply to 70% of Newport Beach’s residents, MWH was recently engaged to design a new reservoir tarp to cover the city’s Big Canyon reservoir.
At 22-acres, Newport Beach’s Big Canyon reservoir, which stores up to 195 million gallons of drinking water for distribution in the city, is one of the largest for drinking water in Orange County.
The reservoir stores enough backup water to satisfy customer needs for at least a week in case of emergency and the new tarp is vital in keeping debris out of the water supply such as algae, African claw frogs and insect larvae.
