On June 29th 2014, the New Zealand Government announced funding to accelerate a package of regionally important state highway projects, drawing on the New Zealand Future Investment Fund. MWH has recently successfully delivered the design, contract and tender evaluation for the first of these projects to commence construction since the funding announcement. The SH35 Passing Opportunities project is located north of Gisborne and targets improved passing provision for this important tourism and forestry access route. The scheme will improve safety and reduce driver frustration for road users by providing opportunities to pass at these critical points, and will be constructed over the next four months. MWH is also undertaking the construction management of the physical works to be completed by Fulton Hogan.
Following the successful delivery of the design, contract and tender evaluation project in a constrained timeframe, New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) invited the MWH transportation team to attend a team building and lessons learnt session. The MWH delivery team (Gavin O’Connor, John Healey, Richard Taylor, Susan Elms and Paul Chilton) joined James Mear (Project Sponsor) and Jason Gillam (Project Manager), both of NZTA, to celebrate our joint success with a morning of rafting on the Mohaka River at Hawkes Bay, followed by a technical debrief of the project. Working as project partners, we identified ongoing improvement opportunities that our project leaders and team members will adopt on the programme to ensure we collaboratively continue to deliver outstanding results.
The MWH transport team in New Zealand is a large 200+ team of professionals with leading expertise, focused on working in partnership with our clients to deliver individually-tailored solutions for road infrastructure owners, across every stage of the asset life cycle for almost 30 years, to deliver the results required for walkers, cyclists, public and private transport users.
