Porirua City is just 20 kilometres north of Wellington in New Zealand and home to around 53 thousand people. It has its own unique culture but one aspect of life it can’t avoid sharing with the capital is a susceptibility to earthquakes. As most of the city was built after the Second World War, much of the water mains system is aging which further increases the vulnerability of the network to earthquakes.
