Julie Labonte, director of Americas program management, was recently featured in the July issue of PE Magazine. The article highlights the skills and abilities needed to successfully manage projects.
Drawing on her experience at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the Water System Improvement Program (WSIP), Julie provides advice to other professional engineers on how to manage large capital improvement programs and projects. She also discusses how managing projects often goes beyond the schedule and budget, and requires managers to effectively engage with various stakeholders.
Julie attributed much of WSIP’s success to its talented staff, “Our ability to recruiter incredibly talented staff, many of whom had experience with larger programs in the prive sector, was certainly key. We were also smart about how we integrated consultants at all levels in a very unified team. They gave us some of the resources and expertise needed to deliver.”
