High Wycombe, UK – The Sutton and East Surrey Water company has selected MWH to design and build an innovative ultraviolet (UV) treatment plant as part of the £8 million upgrade program to the Elmer and Dorking Treatment Works.
The facility upgrade, scheduled for completion in April 2005, includes ultraviolet treatment, rapid gravity filters, wastewater recovery and a sludge dewatering plant. MWH will manage the design, procurement and construction upgrades. In constructing the UV plant, MWH will draw upon its extensive experience at UV treatment plants around the world, including the design and construction one of the largest UV disinfection treatment facilities in the United States, the Northeast Water Purification System in Houston, Texas.
The Sutton and East Surrey Water Company supplies water over a 834 square kilometers (322 square miles) to more than 630,000 people in east Surrey, and parts of West Sussex, west Kent and south London.
