Al-Madinah, Saudi Arabia — Dr. Samer Adham, Chief Operating Officer of MWH’s Applied Research Department, has been honored with the Al Madinah Grand Prize Award for science & applied research in recognition of his work in the advancement of membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for water reclamation.
MBR combines the use of membrane filtration and bioreactors to produce high quality water effluent during the wastewater treatment process. Especially beneficial to desert regions, this unique technology is now used in several facilities around the world to help reduce reliance on limited conventional water supplies. For the last decade, MWH has worked with leading organizations including the United States Bureau of Reclamation, Water Environment Research Foundation, and National Water Research Institute to develop MBR technology for full-scale application. MBRs has significant potential in the Middle East Region to promote water reclamation for irrigation and industrial applications. The technolgy is currently being applied at the Arab-American Oil Company (ARAMCO), King Abdul Aziz City for Science & Technology in Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait Research Institute; among other states.
Dr. Adham received the Award from Prince Moqren Ben Abul Aziz during a ceremony held on December 24th, 2003 in Al-Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
