Broomfield, Colorado – MWH has been selected by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) to provide Program and Construction Management Services for the Las Vegas Convention Center capital improvement project. The multi-million dollar program will begin in the summer of 2005 and is due to be completed within four years. The facility enhancement program will help enable Las Vegas to continue to be the leader in the convention and tradeshow industry.
The LVCVA recently completed an aggressive master plan that identified four categories of recommended improvements, including the addition of meeting space to support its exhibit halls, interior upgrades, traffic improvements, and a “campus” connection between the center and the monorail station. The center currently has a total of two million square feet of exhibit space and 144 meeting rooms. Plans include adding more meeting rooms, reconfiguring existing space into a 100,000-square-foot multi-function room, as well as constructing a pedestrian circulation area along the length of the South Hall, a grand concourse to unify the center’s three halls, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department substation, and a signature façade for the building.
MWH, in partnership with HNTB Architecture, a multidisciplinary firm with expertise in complex convention center construction projects, will lead an integrated Program/Construction Management Team with the LVCVA staff to provide coordination and continuity between the individual projects included in the master plan. In addition to HNTB, several Las Vegas-based firms will participate in the program: Graebel Nevada will focus on move management; TBL Construction will provide construction estimates; Ninyo & Moore will supply testing and inspection services; and Alpha Communication will lead community outreach.
“MWH is excited to work with HNTB, the local firms, and the LVCVA staff on this important program,” said Michael Musgrave, MWH Program Manager. “We look forward to helping the LVCVA accomplish its mission to attract visitors by making Las Vegas the world’s most desirable convention and tradeshow destination.”
MWH and HNTB have provided program and construction management services for many other large programs including the Denver International Airport renovation, the Kansas City Capital Improvement Program, and convention centers in Washington D.C., Boston, San Diego, Kansas City and Providence, Rhode Island.
