MWH Global today announced that it has been retained by the Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD) in Nevada to provide program management services for a number of capital improvement projects (CIP) scheduled to be designed and constructed over the next three years.

Upon completion, the improvements will provide additional wastewater conveyance and treatment capacity for the rapidly growing population in the District and will help meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) water quality standards. The total program management contract awarded to MWH is $11 million. The CCWRD’s investment in the CIP program is projected to be $961 million over the next five years.

“This program consists of capital improvement projects that will address the CCWRD’s need to renovate aging infrastructure, and to provide expanded facilities that will meet federal and state water quality standards well into the future,” said CCWRD’s Sam Scire, manager of Engineering and Construction for the program. “We selected MWH because of the company’s proven ability to manage large, complex programs of this nature.”

Clark County, home to the world-famous Las Vegas strip, is among the fastest growing places in the nation with a population of approximately 1.8 million. The CCWRD is responsible for wastewater collection, treatment and reclamation in all of the unincorporated areas of Clark County, including the outlying communities of Blue Diamond, Indian Springs, Laughlin, Searchlight, and Overton.

“We’re very happy to have been selected by the District to manage critical wastewater infrastructure improvements that will serve a diverse community that’s currently adding about 5,000 new residents every month,” said Rick Frank, program manager for MWH. “We look forward to partnering with the District.”

As program manager, MWH will be responsible for the coordinated management, delivery, and monitoring of a portfolio of the CCWRD’s capital improvement projects. With the program management approach, interrelated projects are managed as a single program. This allows clients to benefit from economies of scale, as well as superior cost and risk management. MWH has provided program management and technical expertise for hundreds of capital improvement projects on programs as large as $4 billion.

MWH opened its Las Vegas office in 1964. Today, the MWH Las Vegas office employs more than 50 people from a variety of technical disciplines.
