MWH today announced that Stephen Browning has joined the company’s executive team, where he will be responsible for assisting in developing MWH’s strategic intent and unit strategies, and helping to facilitate MWH’s overall growth objectives.

Browning brings with him 25 years of diverse international engineering experience in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Prior to joining MWH, Browning served as Director of Programs, South Pacific Region, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and was a senior civilian responsible for all military, civil works and environmental programs throughout the southwestern U.S.

“Steve’s proven leadership capabilities, experience and industry knowledge make him uniquely qualified for this position,” said Don Smith, Chief of Strategy Implementation for MWH. “Additionally, as an internationally recognized disaster recovery expert, he brings important knowledge and relationships that will enhance our ability to provide support to communities affected by catastrophic events.”

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to join one of the world’s preeminent environmental engineering, program management, consulting and construction companies,” said Browning. “I look forward to helping MWH continue to sharpen its focus on key strategies, while also pursuing new opportunities for growth around the globe.”

In 2003, Browning served on the initial reconstruction team in Iraq, where he was a member of the first Coalition Civil Authority Team and the Senior Advisor to the Ministries of Health, Religious Affairs, Transportation and Communications.

Browning also served as the Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority’s Deputy Director for Infrastructure and Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Electricity. His many contributions in Iraq were recognized when he received the National Security and International Affairs Medal, one of the Service to America Medals, on September 28, 2004.

Browning also played a key role in the 9/11 recovery efforts. In 2001, he was deployed as a senior Department of Defense leader at the World Trade Center (WTC) site in response to the attacks. In addition to providing leadership and oversight of USACE WTC emergency response activities, he was appointed the senior federal escort officer for dignitaries and family members visiting the site.

Browning is a registered professional engineer and holds a B.S. and a M.S. in engineering from Colorado State University. In addition, he is a graduate of the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University.
