Broomfield, Colo., June 12, 2012 ­­– MWH Global Vice President Joe Jacangelo has been named Volunteer of the Year by the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The award recognizes and honors an individual AWWA member who has advanced AWWA through his or her time and efforts and has been a support to AWWA staff. Volunteers are nominated by AWWA staff members and selected based on a rating scale.

Jacangelo leads a team of MWH scientists and engineers who provide innovative solutions to clients worldwide in the areas of water quality and treatment, wastewater treatment, water reuse and public health. He has held several positions in his 24 years with MWH, including global manager of the water knowledge center and manager of municipal technology. Jacangelo has 27 years of experience in the field of environmental health engineering and has served as technical director, principal investigator, project manager or engineer for more than 80 water and wastewater projects.

Jacangelo is an adjunct associate professor at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, he is the chair of the board of directors for the Water Reuse Research Foundation and a past board member of AWWA and member of the International Water Association. Jacangelo also served three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of the Congo.

The award was presented at AWWA’s annual conference and exposition (ACE12) in Dallas June 10-14. ACE12 is a gathering of water leaders, sharing knowledge and experiences and featuring more than 550 presentations in 100 separate sessions and in-depth workshops. AWWA is the authoritative resource on safe water.
