Mine Restoration & Remediation

MWH-Peru-3Restoring mined lands to a more natural or economically viable condition has become a priority to local stakeholders and a large segment of the global public. Mining operators understand that planning for the mine reclamation process begins prior to the mine being permitted. This long-term view is part and parcel of the overall environmental engineering and consulting services that are provided to the client by MWH, now part of Stantec.

MWH has completed numerous site investigations, remediation, and restoration projects of contaminated lands around the world, including programs complying with United States’ Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response and Compensation Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund), State-run voluntary cleanup programs and individual host country remediation guidelines.

We offer the full spectrum of capabilities to effectively reclaim or when necessary remediate surface and subsurface disturbance in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible. MWH has a long track record of successfully negotiating with regulatory agencies to reduce our clients’ liabilities and bring projects to completion to the benefit of all the project stakeholders.

We specifically tailor our investigations and project planning towards meeting the overall objectives and critical exit strategy / end point which is discussed in detail at the beginning of a project with our client’s project team. We are experienced at streamlining designs and implementing any of the proven and virtually all the developing remediation technologies associated with in-situ, ex-situ, risk-based, and monitored natural attenuation approaches.
