Sponsored 3rd Annual Girls & Science event at DMNS

On March 4th, 2017 we continued our partnership with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science by sponsoring the 3rd annual Girls & Science event. There was a variety of science clubhouses for participants to explore, each equipped with engaging STEM-based activities. This provides young girls and boys the chance to work alongside women leaders in the industry and experience the many diverse opportunities a future in science, technology, engineering, art and math can bring. Approximately 12,000 youth came, discovered and were inspired!

Watch all the fun and learning at the 2017 Girls and Science event!

We are proud to partner with WFCO.

The Women’s Foundation of Colorado (WFCO) has released the 2016 Gender Equity in Colorado’s STEM Industries: The Case for Focused Workforce Investment, a continued argument in support of women in STEM fields. This report acts as a roadmap to help companies recruit, retain, and advance women in the STEM. Included is the case for the benefits of proactive hiring measures to secure a place for women in the STEM field; such as evidence that companies that hire and retain a more inclusive workforce have improved operational and financial performance and increased innovation. Furthermore, it provides a framework for companies to lead change from within, and includes a comprehensive list of resources (ranging from case studies to policies to facilitators that companies can use to accelerate progress toward gender equity and inclusion). Learn more about WFCO below or at http://www.wfco.org/STEM.

We support Tomorrow’s Engineers (TE) Week.

TE Week is supported by EngineeringUK, the Royal Academy of Engineering and many other organizations. It aims improve the transition from school to a career in engineering. The program works with a diverse range of companies in order to provide a range of educational material for young people. All of the initiatives aim to encourage schools to incorporate engineering into curriculum routines, engaging young minds to help support them with future career decisions. This is incredibly important for the UK engineering sector. Current Initiatives Focus On:

  • Industry visits Workshops
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering and Math’s (STEM) Ambassador partnerships
  • Careers Resources

National Women in Engineering Day in the UK

National Women in Engineering Day in the UK was set up by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to celebrate its 95th anniversary. On 23 June 2014 WES wanted to focus attention on the great opportunities for women in engineering, at a time when it had never been more important to address the engineering skills shortage. By encouraging girls into engineering careers we will not only be increasing diversity and inclusion – a business imperative – but enabling us to fill the substantial future job opportunities that have been predicted in this sector.

We are a founding partner in the STEM Coalition for Women Foundation of Colorado.

In the movie “Field of Dreams”, actor Kevin Costner’s character is guided by an unseen voice that tells him: “If you build it, he will come.” His choice to act in the face of critics and skeptics is a game changer for more than just himself.

MWH and Arrow Electronics, a Colorado-based company serving industrial and commercial users of electronic components, have teamed up with a game plan of their own to guide change by leveraging opportunities emerging for Colorado’s STEM sector and the women living, learning and working in Colorado. The goal is to build a better vision for women. As members of a “dream team” STEM Coalition, MWH and Arrow Electronics intend to raise the bar for what can be achieved in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

The ultimate winners in this game will be the girls and women, not only in Colorado, but across the country, who will gain increased self-sufficiency and ultimately contribute their unique perspectives and leadership across the STEM spectrum.

“Gender equity is important to our company, and we trusted that this coalition would be a catalyst for the needed change in our industry and the business community. Partnering with other companies to share what we have learned and to learn from their experiences has been a valuable experience for our business – and we hope for them as well. This is a long-term journey and we congratulate WFCO for the work they have accomplished to date,” Alan Krause, President, MWH, now part of Stantec, global operations.
