2013 SME Annual Meeting & Exhibit and CMA 115th National Western Mining Conference
Denver, Colorado
As mining companies face more and more challenges associated with water, this workshop prior to the 2013 SME Annual Meeting & Exhibit and CMA 115th National Western Mining Conference will focus on water balance studies and water balance modeling as a tool for managing water quantity and (to a lesser extent) quality at mines and processing sites. The course will cover the following topics and will include a range of site conditions and project challenges, and examples of different models to achieve optimal results:
- What is water balance, why it is important, and what it could be used for
- Defining water balance objectives
- Selecting water balance methodology and models
- Collecting and evaluating water balance input data
- Developing and calibrating the model
- Addressing water quality
- Generating data for reporting requirements
- Using water balance for decision making
Participants are encouraged to bring their water balance issues/challenges to discuss with the expert MWH panel including:
- Tatyana Alexieva, Vice President Global Water and Tailing Management Lead, MWH Global
- Melanie Davis, Supervising Geotechnical Engineer And Lead Water Balance Modeler, MWH Global
- Zygi Zurakowski, Geotechnical Engineer and Water Balance Modeler, MWH Global
- Carmen Bernedo, Hydrologist and Hydraulic Engineer, MWH
