Water is often the challenge and the legacy for many mines. This workshop will focus first on managing impacted mine water and then will look at approaches to treating water when no other options remain.

Participants will walk away with a broad overview of mine water management and treatment options for impacted mine water. The course draws heavily on case studies to demonstrate proven water management and treatment approaches and methods as well as ‘lessons learned’ from mines around the world. Participants are encouraged to bring their water treatment challenges for discussion by the panel of experts and the end of the day. Mine water treatment practices are a tool to address water issues at mines, course topics include:

  • Mine water management – challenges, trends and perspectives
  • Water and mass balance – the starting point for water treatment
  • Mine water pollutants, treatment approaches and treatability testing
  • Physical/chemical, biological, passive and advanced treatment approaches.
  • Case studies and ‘lessons learned’ from mines around the world
  • Ask the experts
